Pepino fruit or in the Latin language Maricatum Solanum is a fruit that comes from the Netherlands, are planted in Indonesia in the colonial era. Pepino fruit is eggplant family, commonly grown in the highlands. Pepino fruit for health benefits are numerous, can cure diseases such as stroke, high blood pressure, indigestion, ulcers, constipation and diabetes mellitus.

In pepino fruits contain lots of vitamin C, but it also contains minerals, simple sugar and pottasium. In addition to health benefits of pepino fruit, this fruit also taste very fresh (not sour or too sweet). Pepino fruit shape like a cucumber, with skin texture such as eggplant, but the content or the flesh soft and contain a high water content.

Based on test results of laboratory analysis of food technology, this fruit memiiiki acids, beta carotene, vitamin C, protein and fiber starches that are needed by the body. From the results of this study proved pepino low-fat, because abortion is 95% water. Every 100 grams of pepino fruit contains 25.1 mg of vitamin C, protein, 0.6 grams, beta-carotene 26.6 mg and 79.3 mg of acid.

It is a species of evergreen shrub, grown for its edible fruit. It is known as 'pepino dulce' or 'sweet pepino'. Solanum muricatum should not be cnfused for similar species such as "S. mucronatum" (which actually seems to belong in the related genus Lycianthes). The pepino dulce fruit resembles a melon (Cucumis melo) in colour, and its flavor recalls a succulent mixture of honeydew and cucumber, and thus it is also sometimes called pepino melon or melon pear, but pepinos are only very distantly related to melons and pears. 
This species is a close relative of other nightshades cultivated for their fruit, including the tomato (S. lycopersicum) and the eggplant (S. melongena).
